Underground Bunkers
Get an instant quote! How Substructure Solutions Builds a Survival Bunker
Building a survival bunker is a multi-stage process requiring careful planning, engineering, and compliance management. Here's how we handle it from start to finish.
1. Free Site Assessment and Consultation
Our underground bunker builders start with a no-obligation site visit to understand your goals, assess the land, and flag any early considerations. You'll get straight advice on what's feasible and what the process looks like for your specific property.
2. Geotechnical Investigation and Structural Design
A geotechnical engineer drills test bores at the proposed bunker location. The report confirms soil type, water table depth, and bearing capacity. The structural engineer then sizes the shell and certifies the design against AS 1170 load cases, so the structure is built to handle real-world conditions, not just estimates.
3. Council Approval Lodgement
Substructure Solutions prepares either the Development Application (DA) or the Complying Development Certificate (CDC) documentation on your behalf. Lodgement typically takes 4 to 10 weeks, depending on your council and project scope.
4. Excavation and Shoring
Our team carries out basement excavation using methods suited to your site conditions, with shoring installed to protect surrounding structures and soil during the dig.
5. Structural Shell and Waterproofing
The reinforced concrete shell is poured and cured to specification. Waterproofing membranes are applied externally to prevent moisture ingress, ensuring critical long-term durability underground.
6. Mechanical Fit-Out
Ventilation, power, water storage, and sanitation systems are installed to make the bunker fully functional. Air filtration is tested under load, and solar arrays and battery banks are commissioned where required.
7. Interior Finishing and Handover
Wall finishes, lighting, fixtures, and access hardware are completed to your specification. Our underground home builder will walk you through every system before handover, so you're confident using the space from day one.
Council Approval and NSW Compliance, Handled by Substructure Solutions
Every underground bunker we build is designed and documented to meet NSW planning and building standards. Our bunker builders manage the compliance process end to end, so nothing gets missed.

TESTIMONIAL
Sarkis successfully repaired my leaning pier under the house. His expertise was evident throughout the job. He finished the job in record time. To my amazement! He is brilliant!!! I had been worrying about the pier for some time b4 I called him. Don’t bother calling anyone else! Satisfied customer 100 per cent.

Sarkis from Substructure Solutions recently completed a sizeable repair job for me. He was professional and easy to work with starting from the initial assessment and quoting, through to completion of the job. It was completed on time and on budget, and he was always quick to address my many questions and concerns along the way. I should also mention that he went above and beyond when he helped to secure a shed that threatened to blow away in a mini-gale – quite unrelated to the contracted job. I am very happy to recommend Sarkis and his team.

Top bloke, transparent with the pricing. Came early, did the job (added three support stumps) and finished early. Easy to work with. Definitely would work with again in the future.
